We had such a good time in 2011 that we are starting to make plans for an alumni reunion to celebrate KTUH’s 45 years of FM broadcasting. The reunion will be held in mid to late June, 2014, probably off-campus this time. All KTUH alumni and current staff members are invited to attend. Be sure that you are on the alumni mailing list (signups are shown above on this page) to receive updates on the reunion event, which will also be posted on this page.
KTUH’s General Manager, Jay-me Morita, sent this url around in an email and it really applies to KTUH’s alumni: http://www.buzzfeed.com/mariasherm/26-signs-you-were-a-college-radio-dj . Thanks, Jay-me.
Enjoy!

The first KTUH staff alumni reunion was held the afternoon of Saturday, July 16th, 2011 on the Hemenway Hall makai lanai at the UH Manoa campus. Seventy alumni, guests and current KTUH staff attended and enjoyed an afternoon of food, drinks, music, KTUH studio tours, plus a showing of the KTUH 40th Documentary and Gallery Show. There was plenty of time to talk story. The KTUH 40 Gallery Show was printed on banners for display at the Reunion. There was also a music set contest for attendees: alumni put together 20 to 30 minute music sets from the era that they were at KTUH and the selected sets were played during the Reunion event. Photos of the reunion event may be seen on the KTUH Alumni flickr site and on Honolulu Pulse.

“This was a fun event! Seeing and catching up with people that I had not seen in over 35 years was really a blast. A BIG mahalo to Chris Kirk-Kuwaye, KTUH’s advisor, for all of her hard work on the on-site planning, and to her husband, Mike and my wife, Cheryl, for manning the check-in / merchandise table. Mahalo also to Ramases and the KTUH staff for providing the music editing and support to make this event possible.” – Fred Barbaria
Dave and Ken Wild, each a KTUH Tuesday night jazz show host in the early 1970s, performed two sets at Vitello’s in Studio City, CA on August 4, 2011. Brothers Dave (on piano) and Ken (on bass) were joined by Eric Marienthal on saxophones and Ray Brinker on drums. Here is a link to a YouTube video from that night. Ken is a former member of Seawind (they played under cover as Limp Jelly Beans on KTUH’s live show, The Pakalolo Patch, in the early 70′s) and is now a studio musician in Los Angeles. Dave, who led the Dave Wild Trio (they played a number of UH events) and recently retired, still plays piano and lives in north Texas. Dave promises that they both will attend the next KTUH staff reunion.
